MELTRIC manufactures a full line of industrial plugs and receptacles, including our signature brand of UL listed Switch-Rated devices with DECONTACTOR® technology and push-button circuit disconnection. These all-in-one devices combine the safety and functionality of a disconnect switch with the convenience of a plug and receptacle and can be safely connected and disconnected under full load.

MELTRIC also manufactures other safe and reliable industrial plugs and receptacles, including multipin, high amperage, single pole, and hazardous location devices. Additionally, we use our devices and third-party components to produce custom power distribution units, including portable rubber boxes, mobile or stationary multigang steel enclosures, dual voltage wall boxes, circuit protected receptacles, and more.

Part of providing great service is getting products to customers when they need them. The MELTRIC factory is organized and managed with the aim of providing the shortest lead-times possible. Most orders are assembled and shipped within two days of receipt, and same day shipment is possible in emergencies. Certifications and Ratings

ELECTRICAL PERFORMANCE

MELTRIC manufactures plugs and receptacles with three different levels of load break capabilities to serve different applications and customer needs. In addition to our primary Switch-Rated product lines, we also manufacture product with current interrupting ratings and non-current interrupting ratings. 

Switch-Rated Plugs and Receptacles

MELTRIC DSN and DS Series products are UL/CSA listed as Switch-Rated plugs and receptacles. These ratings allow them to be used for branch circuit and motor circuit disconnect switching. Switch-rated plugs and receptacles have passed electrical overload, short-circuit, and endurance tests that are far more rigorous than those applied to other plugs and receptacles. These tests include the functional requirements for safety disconnect switches in addition to manual motor controllers.

Current Interrupting Rated Plugs and Receptacles

Other MELTRIC devices, such as DXN hazardous-location plugs and receptacles, are UL and/or CSA rated for “current interrupting.” A current interrupting rated plug and receptacle is not subjected to the same level of endurance testing as a Switch-Rated device and is not intended to be used as a switch. However, they can withstand occasional making and breaking of normal resistive loads, or resistive and inductive loads if they are additionally motor rated. 

Non-Current Interrupting Rated Plugs and Receptacles

Many competitive plugs and receptacles, as well as some MELTRIC devices are “non-current interrupting” rated. This means they are not approved by UL or CSA for connecting or disconnecting under load. They have passed the minimum test requirements for plugs and receptacles, but they have not passed current interrupting performance tests or the more demanding electrical endurance, overload, and short-circuit tests required of Switch-Rated devices. 

NFPA 70E/CSA-Z462 - The standard for electrical safety in the workplace

As the foremost consensus standard for electrical safety in the workplace, NFPA 70E is the primary resource for employers to use in determining how to comply with OSHA’s electrical safety regulations. NFPA 70E is also used by OSHA and the courts in the investigation of injuries to assess whether or not the involved employers took reasonable steps and precautions to protect their employees.

The NFPA 70E standard was developed in the U.S., but has been largely adopted in Canada’s CSA Z462 ‘Workplace Electrical Safety’ standard, and is also increasingly recognized and used in Mexico.

MELTRIC Switch-Rated plugs and receptacles provide a safe means of circuit disconnection, eliminate associated electric hazards due to exposure to live parts or arcing, provide visual verification of deenergization, simplify lockout-tagout, and avoid the need for PPE, making compliance with NFPA 70E easy.
